本文选自2014年6月29日The Observer上一篇名为As the hacking trial proves, we lack moral purpose in public life的文章，主要通过《世界新闻报》电话窃听案的审理这一事件，分析了当前社会中道德丧失问题存在的原因，尤其是在新闻产业中的一系列体现。全文中在长难句方面，难度还是比较大的。作为2015年阅读部分的第四篇文章，其中的复杂长难句不算少，其中又多集中在前半部分，句子较长且内容又涉及电话窃听案，因此给考生们造成了理解上的困难，尤其是对该热点没有太多关注的同学来说，读起来就更加困难了。后半部分的内容涉及对公司管理层的讨论，易于理解，且语言相对简单，所以难度不是特别大。但是就整体来说，难度集中在前面，会给考生造成较大压力，且不利于理解文章。下面就其中的典型例句进行分析：

【典型例句1】：Integrity had collapsed, she argued, because of a collective acceptance that the only “sorting mechanism” in society should be profit and the market.

【例句解析】：本句主干为Integrity had collapsed。she argued由两个逗号隔开，属插入语，可先不看。because of a collective acceptance that the only “sorting mechanism” in society should be profit and the market属because of 介词短语引导的原因状语，其中又包含that引导的同位语从句解释说明acceptance的内容。

【难点点拨】：a collective acceptance：一个共同的接受，实际上指的就是“人们普遍认为”。That引导同位语从句

【例句释义】：她讲到：道德已经丧失了，因为人们普遍认为社会中的唯一分类机制应该是利益和市场。

【典型例句2】：Driving her point home, she continued: “It’s increasingly apparent that the absence of purpose, of a moral language within government, media or business could become one of the most dangerous goals for capitalism and freedom.”

【例句解析】：本句主句为she continued。Driving her point home属现在分词短语作原因状语，属于习语表达。It’s increasingly apparent that the absence of purpose, of a moral language within government, media or business could become one of the most dangerous goals for capitalism and freedom.是本句中的难点所在，属于讲话内容，具体解析为：it作形式主语，that引导主语从句;the absence of purpose, of a moral language within government, media or business中absence由两个of短语作后置定语进行修饰，第二个of短语是理解难点，其中within government, media or business又作后置定语修饰a moral language。

【难点点拨】：Driving her point home：习语，把问题讲清楚;of a moral language within government, media or business：修饰absence，意思为“政府、媒体或商界中的道德语言的缺失”。

【例句释义】：因为要把问题讲清楚，所以她继续道：“对于资本主义和自由来说，目的的缺失以及政府、媒体或商界中道德语言的缺失很可能会变成最为危险的发展目标之一，现在这事越来越明显了。”

【典型例句3】：This same absence of moral purpose was wounding companies such as News International, she thought, making it more likely that it would lose its way as it had with widespread illegal telephone hacking.

【例句解析】：本句主干为 This same absence of moral purpose was wounding companies。Such as 引导同位语解释companies。she thought由两个逗号隔开，属插入语。making it more likely that it would lose its way as it had with widespread illegal telephone hacking属现在分词短语，作结果状语，其中：第一个it是形式宾语，that引导真正的宾语从句;as it had中as引导定语从句修饰way;with widespread illegal telephone hacking中with介词短语作伴随状语。

【难点点拨】：wound：动词，伤害。Making现在分词短语作结果状语。It 作形式宾语，that引导宾语从句。

【例句释义】：她认为，同样的道德目的的缺失正在伤害着像新闻国际这样的公司，使它更可能随着非法电话窃听的盛行迷失之前曾有的方向。

【典型例句4】：As the hacking trial concludes—finding guilty one ex-editor of the News of the World, Andy Coulson, for conspiring to hack phones, and finding his predecessor, Rebekah Brooks, innocent of the same charge—the wider issue of dearth of integrity still stands.

【例句解析】：本句主句为 the wider issue of dearth of integrity still stands。As the hacking trial concludes—finding guilty one ex-editor of the News of the World, Andy Coulson, for conspiring to hack phones, and finding his predecessor, Rebekah Brooks, innocent of the same charge—中，as引导让步状语从句。两个破折号中间的内容属动名词短语，作同位语，解释说明trial，但是又由两个破折号隔开，属插入语，可先不看;其中one ex-editor of the News of the World, Andy Coulson属宾语后置，作finding的宾语，for conspiring to hack phones属for介词短语作原因状语，修饰finding guilty。

【难点点拨】：as引导让步状语从句。破折号中间内容的理解。Conclude：结束。Conspire：合谋。Predecessor：前任。Stand：持续存在。

【例句释义】：尽管窃听案审判结束了——发现《世界新闻报》前主编安迪·库尔森因合谋窃听手机而有罪，而他的前任丽贝卡•布鲁克斯清白无罪——但是关于道德丧失的更为广泛的讨论仍在继续。

【典型例句5】：One of the astonishing revelations was how little Rebekah Brooks knew of what went on in her newsroom, how little she thought to ask and the fact that she never inquired how the stories arrived.

【例句解析】：本句结构为主系表，主语是One of the astonishing revelations，系动词是was，表语包括三部分：两个how引导的表语从句以及the fact。how little Rebekah Brooks knew of what went on in her newsroom中，what went on in her newsroom属what引导宾语从句作介词of的宾语。the fact that she never inquired how the stories arrived中that引导同位语从句解释fact，其中how又引导宾语从句作inquire的宾语。

【难点点拨】：revelation：发现。表语部分包含三个并列成分。That引导同位语从句。

【例句释义】：其中令人震惊的一个发现就是丽贝卡•布鲁克斯竟然不知道她的新闻编辑部里所发生的事情、她竟然不会去询问相关细节以及她从来不会询问新闻故事从何而来的这一事实。

总之，由于真题经常会考到英语中常用的习语表达，所以大家在复习时一定要认真对待，如果时间充足的话，就多读一些外国核心期刊文章，如《经济学人》、《新闻周刊

》等，积累英语国家新闻中常用到的地道表达，此外本文中考查较多的是插入语、状语、it作形式主语和形式宾语以及宾语后置等，因此课下多多复习，尤其是要弄懂其中的难点。
